How PRESBYOND® works

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is an improved form of monovision. The dominant eye is set for distance vision, while the non-dominant eye is corrected for intermediate and near vision. In this way, both eyes are tuned to work well together, optimizing your eyes’ depth of field. We offer this innovative method at our eye laser centre in Karlsruhe and at the eye laser centre in Stuttgart.

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision from Zeiss is a personalized treatment. Unlike monovision, the laser creates a positive spherical deviation in the central zone of the eye.

This micro-monovision strategy balances the eyes’ differently adjusted vision and helps the brain combine the impressions into a coherent overall picture.

This blending of visual impressions is individually tailored and varies from person to person. The area where distance and near vision converge to form the ideal symbiosis is called the “Blend Zone”.

Experience clear vision at all distances

Before the PRESBYOND® treatment, reading a menu or checking your phone can be so tedious that you have to blink or reach for reading glasses. After the procedure, imagine the relief when your eyes effortlessly shift focus from near to far without discomfort or strain.

PresbyMAX

The first SCHWIND Multi-Center study on the PresbyMAX Hybrid documented outstanding clinical results. In this study, 372 eyes of 186 patients with myopia, hyperopia and normal visual acuity were analyzed. Click here for more information.

PresbyMAX: A Closer Look at Refractive Surgery

In refractive surgery, recent advances have focused on targeted treatments for presbyopia, a condition that was previously difficult to correct uniformly. Schwind, a pioneer in excimer laser surgery on the cornea, introduced PresbyMAX—an innovative solution for treating presbyopia using advanced ablation profiles. This study examines practical applications of PresbyMAX, performed bilaterally in five patients aged 44 to 61 during femto-LASIK procedures. Patient feedback indicated an overall satisfactory experience.

What are the symptoms of presbyopia?

The Bányai eye surgery centre in Stuttgart specialises in the treatment of presbyopia with PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision. The surgical change in refractive power caused by laser eye surgery is called refractive surgery.

Over the years, the natural elasticity of the eye’s lens decreases. This means objects at close range can no longer be focused properly. Written and nearby objects therefore appear blurry. Near visual acuity is reduced.

The loss of lens elasticity leads to spherical aberrations (imaging errors). In this case, light after the lens is not focused to a single point but instead converges at different points, making the image appear blurred.

When reading or viewing close objects under low light or late in the day, you may notice fatigue. You may have trouble focusing on objects at intermediate distances or frequently shift the book’s position to find the right angle. The loss of elasticity of the natural lens—the origin of presbyopia—typically begins around age 40.

PRESBYOND® eligibility criteria

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is an optimized laser method for presbyopia and is therefore well suited to the needs of patients aged 40 and over. Progressive lenses, reading glasses and contact lenses can become a thing of the past.

PRESBYOND® side effects

Possible side effects
Organic (physical) side effects are comparable to those of femto-LASIK. In addition, there is a possibility that neuroadaptation (blending) may not occur as expected.

“Blending” is the process where your brain learns to shift between near and far vision and to combine information from both eyes. On average, this process takes about four months.

This varies from patient to patient. “Cross-blurring” describes temporary blurred near vision that typically resolves over time. In some cases, glasses can provide comfortable vision during the adaptation period.

How PRESBYOND® works

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is an improved form of monovision. The dominant eye is adjusted for distance vision and the non-dominant eye for intermediate and near vision, so both eyes work together to optimize depth of field.

This blending of visual impressions is individually adapted. The area where distance and near vision converge to form the ideal symbiosis is called the “Blend Zone”.

The unique Blend Zone

The Blend Zone ensures that the brain can merge the different visual impressions and thus enable unrestricted good vision in both eyes – sharp vision is restored.

In addition to excellent near and distance vision, PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision achieves strong performance in the intermediate (mid-range). The majority of patients adapt quickly and are pleased to no longer need or be so dependent on glasses.

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is an optimized laser method for presbyopia and is therefore particularly well suited to the needs of patients aged 40 and over. Progressive lenses, reading glasses and contact lenses can become a thing of the past.

This fast‑growing demographic isn’t just affected by presbyopia — they are also willing to pursue sophisticated solutions beyond conventional visual aids.

Because the procedure is minimally invasive, PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is one of the gentlest and most tolerable treatment options for presbyopia.

Our ophthalmologists are happy to take the time for a detailed consultation about PRESBYOND® laser eye treatment. Good vision is possible at any age. Here you can ask all personal questions about indications, your diopters (DPT), and the cost of treatment per eye. We take the time to provide comprehensive advice.

Of course, a detailed preliminary examination is conducted to ensure a smooth course of the PRESBYOND® treatment.

PRESBYOND® alternatives

There are many ways to correct presbyopia, including SMILE® Pro, femto-LASIK, PRK, monovision and refractive lens exchange (RLE).

After PRESBYOND® treatment

After the treatment

Immediately after the PRESBYOND® treatment, slight discomfort may occur. A sensation of dry eyes and mildly blurred vision is normal.

Vision fluctuations are common during the first two days. The healing process and visual adaptation can take three to four months in total. It is important to use both eyes together during this time and not to “test” them individually.

PRESBYOND® procedure

The latest method is PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision, a development of monovision. PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision provides excellent results for the correction of refractive errors.

An additional visual aid is often no longer necessary. A life without contact lenses or glasses is possible and is the treatment goal. All devices are manufactured and tested by Carl Zeiss Meditec.
