Often, this gradual process begins around the age of 40 with presbyopia, which makes it difficult to see up close.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, other age-related eye diseases, such as cataracts or age-related macular degeneration (AMD), can also significantly impair vision in old age. Nevertheless, certain structures in the eye can <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">change with age<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which can lead to various <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">changes in vision<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Some of these are:<\/span><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presbyopia<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lens of the eye<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> loses elasticity, making it difficult to focus on nearby objects and impairing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">visual performance<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (initially, especially in low <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">light conditions<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). The first signs of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">presbyopia<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> usually appear from the age of 40.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cataract<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The clouding of the lens causes blurred vision and sensitivity to light. This condition typically appears from around age 50 (the risk increases with age) and is treated by lens replacement.\u00b9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Age-related macular degeneration<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AMD<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">): This condition affects the retina and causes a gradual loss of central vision in those affected.
