Femto LASIK laser eye treatment
Our Femto LASIK procedure uses modern laser technology to precisely shape your cornea and give you new eyes.

Femto LASIK briefly explained
When it comes to laser myopia, there are several effective methods of correction that can significantly improve vision. The most popular methods include SMILE® Pro and FEMTO LASIK.
A laser procedure can help you achieve your usual visual acuity and allow you to perfectly recognize the distant as well as the near – completely without any visual aids.
If you feel restricted by your visual aid, laser eye surgery can improve your quality of life. Thanks to advanced technology, this operation has become a standard procedure with few risks. By means of an excimer laser or femtosecond laser, an exact correction is made by the surgeon within seconds and your visual defect is a thing of the past. This procedure with the Femto Lasik method is performed in our eye centers in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart.
The eye laser corrects the excessive refractive power of the eye lens or compensates for the excess length of the short-sighted eyeball and restores vision. It is not uncommon for myopia to occur in combination with a corneal curvature. Even then, laser eye surgery is often very possible.
The benefits of Femto LASIK
The success of LASIK surgery is due, among other things, to the fact that incision-related complications on the eye can thus be absolutely ruled out. In the eye laser procedure, the flap is generated with a very fine femtosecond laser. As a result, the flap will heal again without any problems after the treatment.
Femto-LASIK has the advantage that the upper corneal layers are formed into a corneal cover and unfolded. The procedure also favours the healing process, which is usually much faster than with a conventional LASIK procedure. Femto-LASIK can also be used to correct presbyopia with monovision.
Exclusion of cut-related complications
Faster healing process
Precise generation of the flap with femtosecond laser
Correction of farsightedness and presbyopia
Problem-free healing of the flap
High customer satisfaction
Application of Femto LASIK
Whether your eyes are suitable for LASIK treatment depends primarily on the type of vision defect you have. In contrast to Relex Smile or SMILE Pro, Femto LASIK can also be used to treat farsightedness up to +5 dioptres.
Short-sightedness (myopia): up to approx. -10 dpt
Farsightedness (hyperopia): up to approx. +5 dpt
Corneal curvature (astigmatism): up to approx. 5 dpt
No eye disease (e.g. cataract/cataract)
Eye lasers with LASIK are not possible with:
Age under 18
Insufficient corneal thickness of the eyes
Presence of a general disease (e.g. rheumatism, diabetes)
Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Unstable refraction values (defective vision changes continuously, +/- 0.5 diopters per year)

Femtosecond laser from
Carl Zeiss
For Femto-LASIK, we use the state-of-the-art VisuMax femtosecond laser from Carl Zeiss. This femtosecond laser has adjustable contact lenses and can be adapted to all corneal conditions thanks to its higher precision.
The laser can compensate for slight eye movements (eye tracking). This flexibility of the lasers ensures maximum cutting precision in femto-LASIK and helps us to treat our patients in our eye centers in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart with the highest technical standards in terms of equipment and methodology.
The Femto-Lasik method consists of two treatment steps: the VisuMax forms the flap and the Excimer Laser MEL 90 corrects the defective vision by removing tissue. With its technical “fingertip feel”, the VisuMax femtosecond laser offers absolute safety and effectiveness for eye lasers, even with high refractive error. The method ensures a high level of comfort during treatment on the eye. The laser used ensures an optimal treatment result.
Whether your eye is suitable for treatment with Femto-LASIK depends primarily on the severity and type of your visual defect. We generally use the laser method in one eye for laser vision, nearsightedness, and corneal curvature. After laser treatment, you can enjoy full vision without glasses or contact lenses.

Answers to your questions about Femto LASIK
In the conventional femtolASIK procedure, the incision in the cornea is formed by the femtosecond laser to produce a lamella, the so-called “flap”. This flap in the corneal surface of the eye is then unfolded and the correction of the defective vision underneath is carried out by means of an eye laser. The word flap comes from the English and means flap. Once the laser eye treatment (refractive surgery) is finished, the flap in the eye is closed and the healing process of the eyes begins. In the course of the healing process of the eyes, you should refrain from sporting activities for the time being. The flap is not noticeable in the eye after the treatment and grows back on its own.
If you want an even gentler, more precise and innovative eye surgery for myopia or corneal curvature, we recommend the SMILE® Pro procedure. The treatment options for lasers are extensive and can be used particularly gently for the patient. You can find out which eye laser method is right for you in a personal conversation. For people with an extremely thin cornea, for example, the A-PRK or LASEK (Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis) are a suitable alternative. A lens implant can also be a suitable solution for farsighted people.
As with any treatment, there are possible risks and complications with femto-LASIK, but there is no reason to worry. Because these occur very rarely, such as infections, dry eyes or halos. In addition, it is possible for a flap complication to occur. The opening and closing of the corneal cover can lead to slipping or wrinkling. Nevertheless, Femto-LASIK is extremely safe and gentle and enjoys a large number of satisfied patients.
The actual laser correction with LASIK takes only a few seconds on the day of treatment in Karlsruhe or Stuttgart. With preparation as well as pre- and follow-up examinations, however, about two hours of stay should be planned. Otherwise, you don’t have to make any special preparations for your big day.
- With a high-precision laser, the VisuMax, the surgeon prepares a wafer-thin lamella on the cornea (flap) during treatment with Femto Lasik. This is unfolded like a book cover.
- Now the excimer laser removes tissue in the exposed pain-insensitive layer of the cornea. This process only takes a few seconds, your refractive error is corrected and your vision returns. The laser-assisted removal of corneal tissue therefore results in a change in the corneal curvature and thus in a change in the refractive power.
- The flap is then folded back like an endogenous bandage. The flap immediately clings to the rest of the cornea and completely closes the surface of the eye. Thanks to this endogenous dressing, you will not feel any pain even after the treatment. This is the reason why this method of laser eye surgery is perceived by patients as particularly pleasant.
It is important that you do not drive yourself immediately after the treatment. You can also easily reach our centre in Karlsruhe or Stuttgart by public transport. More detailed information on the procedure can be found here or directly at our laser eye centre.
Immediately after LASIK surgery, your new visual pleasure begins. Your visual acuity is much better immediately. However, you should still take care of yourself in the first few hours after the treatment. Avoid straining your eyes and don’t look into each other’s eyes. You will also receive a detailed plan with dates for follow-up checks. Some patients report dry eyes after surgery, but this symptom regulates itself and can be treated by eye drops in consultation with their doctor.

The difference between the two methods is that femto-LASIK is a further development of LASIK eye treatment. Nevertheless, LASIK is still used under certain circumstances, as it still has great benefits.
The term LASIK costs generally describes the expenses for laser eye treatment using LASIK procedures. The Femto LASIK costs relate specifically to a modern further development of classic LASIK, in which the corneal flap is created with a femtosecond laser instead of a microkeratome. This makes Femto LASIK more precise and gentle – which is also reflected in the price: at Bányai Neue Augen, Femto LASIK costs start at 2,200 euros per eye, with the possibility of interest-free installment payments starting at 71 euros per month. Classic LASIK procedures without a femtolaser are often slightly cheaper, but offer fewer advantages in terms of safety and healing process.
Femto-LASIK is the extension of LASIK and thus even more modern and gentle. Femto-LASIK treatment is performed with a high-precision femtosecond laser. The upper corneal layers are formed into a small corneal cover and unfolded. This promotes a faster healing process than with ordinary LASIK treatment. In certain cases, LASIK is still used, as it continues to show a high benefit.

In addition, it is possible for a flap complication to occur. The opening and closing of the corneal cover can lead to slipping or wrinkling. Nevertheless, Femto-LASIK is extremely safe and gentle and enjoys a large number of satisfied patients. LASIK laser eye treatment cannot help with presbyopia or presbyopia. Here at Frau Doctor-medic Bányai, the Presbyond laser blended vision method is used.
Laser eye surgery is no longer a novelty, which is why the individual procedures have been well tested and researched. LASIK is a tried and tested method of eye laser and is considered very safe. The healing process of LASIK takes a little longer than with Femto LASIK treatment and the risk of complications such as infections, corneal deformities or lacrimal gland failure is also higher. However, these are very rare.
Both eye laser methods, Femto-LASIK and SMILE® Pro, are state-of-the-art procedures that are only performed by highly trained eye surgeons with highly precise equipment. What is more suitable for the individual patient depends on the patient and his refractive error or eye disease. SMILE® Pro is currently considered the gentlest and safest method, as flap complications can be ruled out.
