Is laser eye surgery suitable for you?
SMILE® PRO in Stuttgart
The most advanced method of laser eye surgery in Stuttgart is the SMILE® PRO procedure, a further development of femto-LASIK and the former ReLEx SMILE. This method is even faster and gentler, as the actual laser step takes only about 10 seconds.
The minimally invasive procedure no longer requires a large corneal flap; a small incision of only 2 to 3 mm is sufficient. This fully maintains corneal stability and does not interfere with tear film regulation, minimizing the risk of dry eyes.
Patients benefit from a short, comfortable procedure and a faster recovery. The SMILE® PRO procedure is used in our modern centre in Stuttgart to treat myopia down to about -10 D and astigmatism up to about 5 D. The laser correction is performed on an outpatient basis and many patients are surprised at how fast and pain-free the procedure is.
The SMILE® PRO procedure uses the VisuMax 800 femtosecond laser from Zeiss and offers an excellent alternative to previous methods such as femto-LASIK, as most of the upper corneal layers remain untouched and stable.

At our laser eye center in Stuttgart, we rely on a further development of the LASIK method: the so-called femto-LASIK. In this procedure we completely avoid mechanical cuts in the eye; the treatment is performed exclusively with lasers, such as the excimer laser. As a result, femto-LASIK allows a gentler laser vision correction compared to conventional LASIK.
In our centre we place special emphasis on detailed counselling and optimal patient care to answer all questions about laser eye surgery and LASIK. The LASIK method has been widely used since the 1990s and has been performed more than 40 million times worldwide. Parts of the cornea are reshaped to correct the refractive power so that light rays again focus precisely on the retina. This enables sharp vision without aids and significantly improves quality of life.
The advantages of the LASIK procedure include a short treatment time of only a few minutes and the option to perform the procedure on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia. The spectrum ranges from astigmatism (up to approx. 6 diopters) and moderate myopia (up to -10 diopters) to hyperopia (up to +4 diopters).

Accordingly, there is no inpatient admission, only outpatient admission and treatment. An inpatient stay is simply not necessary for the laser treatments and operations we perform. After a few hours of observation in our practice, patients can return home.
