Laser eye surgery experiences: patient reports
Testimonials show how individual patients have experienced their treatment. They provide insights into the process, personal feelings and the time afterwards. The course is individual and does not guarantee a specific result.
Testimonials from our laser eye patients
Nico Auer from Hitradio antenne 1, Jasmin (@unterwegsmitjasmin), Duygu Bella and many other well-known faces rely on our expertise.
Nico Auer of Antenna 1, for example, had his nearsightedness lasered with us – you can follow his joy in his experience with eye lasers.
The combination of state-of-the-art technology and the experience of the team around Doctor-medic Bányai makes the laser eye centers a renowned choice in Germany.
Nico Auer: Eye lasers in nearsightedness
For more than 20 years, Nico Auer lived with myopia and relied on glasses in everyday life. Especially in winter, fogged-up spectacle lenses bothered him. For some time now, he has therefore been preoccupied with the thought of eye lasers and the possibility of being spectacle-free in everyday life – his goal: a life without glasses.
Finally, Nico opted for laser eye treatment at Bányai Neue Augen in Leonberg. As part of the preliminary examination, his dioptres were determined by eye test and the condition of his cornea, among other things, before the appropriate laser correction was selected for him. You can find out how the treatment went and how he experienced the procedure himself in his personal experience report. This is not only about the day of treatment, but also about his experiences in the days and weeks after.
Thomas Braico: Eye lasers in presbyopia
Thomas Braico has opted for treatment with PRESBYOND ® Laser Blended Vision due to his presbyopia.
In a three-part video series, Nico Auer accompanies him from the preliminary examination and the information interview through the procedure to the aftercare, giving personal insights into Thomas’ expectations and experiences. During the treatment, the cornea was modeled with the excimer laser and optimized for sharp vision at different distances with the help of PRESBYOND ®. Thomas tells how he experienced the procedure and how his eyesight felt right after it.

Positive vs. Negative Eye Laser Experiences: Why the Benefits Outweigh
In the case of eye lasers, the positive experiences clearly outweigh the negative ones. Many patients report significant improvements in their vision and an increased quality of life. The freedom of no longer having to wear glasses, vision aids or contact lenses is a great advantage that facilitates many activities.
In the long term, patients also save costs by eliminating expenses for new glasses and contact lenses. Modern technologies and experienced doctors ensure that complications are rare and that most procedures run smoothly. In addition, innovative methods such as SMILE® Pro have become established, with which eye lasers can be carried out in an unexpectedly gentle manner.
Visual acuity often improves rapidly, and many achieve a visual quality they never thought possible before. These advantages make laser eye surgery an extremely attractive option.

Negative experiences before laser eye surgery: fear and insecurity
Fear of laser eye surgery is normal. Many people worry about pain, the treatment on the eye or the result. A detailed consultation can reduce this uncertainty. Among other things, the defective vision, the cornea, the tear film quality and personal expectations are examined.
The decision also includes the question of whether the desired vision correction is realistic. Not every person is suitable for every procedure. If the preliminary examination speaks against an intervention, the result should be accepted. A serious consultation does not promise a specific visual performance, but explains opportunities, limits and alternatives.
Experiences after laser eye surgery
After laser eye surgery, temporary dry or irritated eyes, a foreign body sensation, sensitivity to light, as well as halos and glare effects may occur. Moisturizing eye drops can relieve discomfort. Mild pain or fluctuating visual acuity are also possible in the first few days, depending on the method, and usually improve during healing.
In the treatment of presbyopia, vision may initially be blurred. The brain first has to get used to the different visual impressions of both eyes, for example after treatment with PRESBYOND®. This acclimatization can take a few weeks.
The procedure: from the preliminary examination to the follow-up
Consultation and preliminary examination
Before the treatment, the vision, dioptres, cornea and tear film quality, among other things, are examined. In the personal consultation, the expectations, possible risks and suitable treatment procedures are also discussed. Only on this basis can it be assessed whether eye lasers are suitable in an individual case.
Laser Eye Treatment Day
On the day of treatment, the eyes are checked again and the individual steps explained. The procedure is usually performed painlessly using special anaesthetic drops. Which method is used and how the treatment is carried out depends on the findings and the joint decision made by the doctor.
The first days and the control after a week
Dry or irritated eyes, sensitivity to light, a foreign body sensation, halos or fluctuating visual acuity may occur in the first few days. The individual healing process is checked during the follow-up checks. Which activities are possible again, when, should be discussed with the treating medical team.

Which refractive errors and procedures are possible?
Experiences with eye lasers differ depending on the initial findings. Depending on suitability, nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia and corneal curvature (astigmatism), among other things, can be treated. The suitable method is also individual and can include, for example, SMILE® Pro, Femto-LASIK, PRK or PRESBYOND ® laser blended vision.
Which method is suitable is not decided solely on the basis of the diopters. The cornea, the tear film, the stability of vision and other personal factors are taken into account in the preliminary examination. An overview of the procedures can be found in the eye laser methods.

Yes, even if they are a significant minority. You can find out more about this in our detailed article on negative experiences with laser eye surgery.
Testimonials most often mention temporarily dry eyes, a slight foreign body sensation or halos (halos around light sources at night) in the first days after treatment. These usually subside as part of the normal healing process.
The vast majority of patients report stable, permanent vision after treatment. Regular follow-up examinations after the operation help to control visual performance and to reliably correct an existing visual impairment.
Patients such as Nico Auer describe the preliminary examination as detailed and reassuring: as part of a personal information interview, diopters, corneal thickness and individual refractive error are determined by eye test, among other things. This makes it possible to assess at an early stage which procedure – such as SMILE PRO, Femto-LASIK or PRK – is suitable and which risks are individually relevant.
The procedure itself is usually performed with numbing eye drops. Depending on the procedure and personal sensation, pressure, burning, a foreign body sensation or slight pain may occur during or after treatment. Which complaints are to be expected will be discussed in the clarification meeting and in the aftercare.
The duration of healing depends on the procedure and the individual course. Dry or irritated eyes, sensitivity to light, a foreign body sensation or fluctuating visual acuity may occur in the first few days. Which activities are possible again, and when, should be clarified individually with the treating medical team and during the follow-up checks.
