Astigmatism Test – Test Corneal Curvature Online
While a slight corneal curvature is often not noticed in everyday life, blurring or distortion of your environment is more noticeable when it is more pronounced. A simple online astigmatism test will give you an indication of whether you suffer from astigmatism. However, you should consult a specialist or optician for a definitive diagnosis.
No worries, whether monthly lenses, hard contact lenses or spectacle wearers – the professional will always find an uncomplicated and pleasant correction option in case of need. So try out your eyes online!
Online corneal curvature (astigmatism) vision test
Astigmatism can occur both in combination with nearsightedness (myopia) or farsightedness (hyperopia), as well as without further refractive error. Many people who have a slight corneal curvature do not even notice it in everyday life for a long time.
With simple astigmatism tests, you can find out online whether you suffer from a corneal curvature in order to visit an optician if necessary. With the help of toric contact lenses or spectacle lenses, the visual disturbance can be easily corrected, so that you regain full visual acuity.
To find out if you too need such a visual aid, simply follow the steps below:
- View the image at a distance of 30 to 40 cm. Make sure you have good lighting.
- Now you should focus each of the four circles one after the other, first with one eye at a time and then with both eyes together.
- Can you see clear, black lines in all circles? If the lines appear blurred in one or more circles, you can use this as an indication of a corneal curvature, which must be checked by an ophthalmologist or optometrist.

Testing Astigmatism Online: Sun Wheel
In addition, there is a second astigmatism eye test, the so-called astigmatism sun wheel. The image, which shows outward rays, should be viewed from a distance of approx. 40 – 50 cm. Since the quality on the screen is often poorer, it is recommended that you can also print the sun gear in good quality. In this way, the results are less distorted.
Do you feel like the beams look blurry in one direction? Then you should repeat the test again after a few minutes. If you still see a blurred image, please consult an ophthalmologist.

Astigmatism Test Result
Since in principle all lines of the objects of the online vision test are sharp, a blurred visual impression can indicate a corneal curvature. Do not hesitate to schedule a consultation with your trusted optician or ophthalmologist to have the vision defect checked.
Astigmatism is corrected by means of glasses or special contact lenses specially made for your eyesight. In this way, the incorrect refraction of the cornea of the eye can be eliminated, so that the focal lines of your eye run correctly again and the optical apparatus produces a clear image.
As a preliminary examination, only an exact measurement of your individual vision is required, whereby the extent of the astigmatism is calculated from the difference between the largest and the smallest refractive power.
Corneal Curvature Symptoms
The symptoms of a corneal curvature can be manifested on several levels: Astigmatism is primarily characterized by distorted vision, with additional symptoms such as headache, eye pain, dry eyes or dizziness. Immediate loss of vision, on the other hand, is more of a sign of uncontrolled astigmatism.
If only a mild form of astigmatism is present, the affected person often does not perceive any visual impairment at all. Since the human eye is not naturally perfectly built, most people have a slightly curved cornea anyway. A value of the corneal curvature of 0.25 diopters is therefore still in the normal range, can be compensated by the eye and usually does not require artificial correction.
On the other hand, if the cornea is bent too much, the vision near and far can be distorted, making round things appear long and rod-shaped, for example. The German term Stabsichtigkeit (also called dotlessness) is also derived from this phenomenon. If you experience such severe symptoms of astigmatism, an ophthalmologist or optician must be consulted promptly.
A corneal curvature is usually genetic and therefore unavoidable. Other causes of astigmatism include eye injuries, refractive errors, or corneal diseases.
Laser treatment for corneal curvature
However, in order to remedy the corneal curvature in the long term, it is recommended to laser the corneal curvature. With this fast and above all painless laser treatment, your visual impairment will be permanently corrected.
Not sure if you can handle hard or soft contact lenses better or if you are more of a spectacle wearer? No need to worry! With laser eye surgery, your visual impairment disappears and so does the need for contact lenses or glasses, as the cornea now functions as it should (even with thin corneas, there are suitable procedures).
