Working on the PC – My glasses bother me!
As technology has progressed, computer work has become indispensable. Numerous people often spend eight hours a day in front of the PC. Many people use glasses to get the sharpest possible image. But although the glasses should actually be a tool, they are often perceived as annoying.
The correction aid is often considered the cause of numerous complaints, which are briefly presented below. In order to be able to work comfortably at work again, it is worth thinking about eye lasers and considering this permanent treatment. Learn more about this in the following post.
What can interfere with the glasses on the PC?
The glasses on the PC can quickly be perceived as annoying. The disadvantages of the glasses are that they can constantly slip down or also sit uncomfortably. The glasses may also fog up all the time. The wearer of the glasses can therefore quickly feel bothered by their own glasses.
There are many reasons why and how eyeglasses interfere with the PC, but they vary greatly from person to person. In addition to the varifocal glasses, there are also blue light filter glasses that filter the harmful blue light.
Headache
Perhaps you know this: you are already sitting at your workplace in the morning and the excruciating headaches begin. You remove the glasses, but you no longer see the lines clearly. So not a good option.
Many people often use varifocal glasses on a PC that are not optimally adjusted to the monitor distance. Even with pure close-up glasses, perfect vision is not guaranteed. Many ophthalmologists now recommend special computer glasses for good vision when working with computers.

Dry Eyes
Especially in the workplace, many people complain of dry eyes. The reasons for this can be multifaceted. For example, the air in many offices is very dry. In summer the air conditioning, and in winter the heating air lead to dry eyes.
In addition, it has been proven that fewer eyelids are blown when looking at the monitor than would normally be the case. In technical language, this is referred to as Sicca syndrome.
This leads to dehydration of the surface of the eye due to a disturbed tear film homeostasis. There are various symptoms of dry eyes. For example, redness on the edge of the eyelid or the conjunctiva can be an indication of this.
But watery eyes and eye twitching are also symptomatic of this. The tear film no longer adheres to the corneal surface and flows out of the eye. This dries out the surface.
Fatigue and concentration
When working on the computer, many employees also complain of fatigue and concentration problems. One reason for this may also be an inappropriate visual aid. If the correction is too strong or too weak, the eyes are always tense. This can have negative effects on the concentration performance of the employee.
Nasal bridge pain
Often, pain in the bridge of the nose can also be the trigger for why people feel disturbed by their glasses on the PC. The higher the refractive error, the heavier the glasses.
A weight that must be carried by the bridge of the nose all day long. Often different nose pads with different degrees of hardness are tried, but usually no alternatives bring the desired success.
Is my glasses set correctly?
First of all, you should ask yourself whether your glasses are perfectly tailored to you. Your optician can best answer this question. The nose pad should rest over a large area on the bridge of your nose in order to distribute the weight as well as possible. The temples should be kept at a minimum distance from the temples, otherwise headaches are inevitable.
But above all, the adjustment of the temple ends is important to ensure a comfortable fit of the glasses. The bend of the temple ends is decisive, as is the bend on the auricle to avoid pressure points, but still to ensure a firm fit. Because the constant pushing up of the glasses is also very annoying for the spectacle wearer.
Have you heard of keystone distortion?
Perhaps you are already familiar with trapezoidal distortion because you have already experienced this phenomenon yourself. This is understood to mean the distorted perception of a square to form a trapezoid. Many spectacle wearers know this on the computer when the upper part of the screen is pulled further apart than the lower part.
One reason for this is the centering of the lenses. Each lens has an optical center point through which the best view is achieved. However, if you look at an edge above the glass, you may notice these disturbing optical phenomena.

What are the alternatives to glasses?
Since many spectacle wearers are familiar with these problems, the question arises as to how these can best be remedied.
Contact Lenses
Contact lenses have the advantage that the problem of keystone distortion does not exist. The contact lens rests directly on the cornea of the eye and thus no prismatic side effect can occur. Another advantage of contact lenses is the lack of weight.
The bridge of the nose and the temple area are exposed. However, contact lenses can further worsen the symptoms of dry eyes.
Although there are now numerous air-permeable materials for contact lenses, many people complain about an incompatibility of this type of correction, especially on a PC. Many people are also put off by the constant care of the lenses and putting them on and off.
Laser treatment for eyes
There is still another way to avoid uncomfortable visual aids and still see well. Eye lasers are now widely used. This procedure then gives you the opportunity to see clearly again without correction.
There are many reasons for laser eye surgery. Even with regular screen work, you will no longer be disturbed by the glasses. So are you plagued by headaches, tired eyes and unpleasant pressure points? Then you should not disregard this variant.
The advantages of laser eye surgery at a glance:
- No visual aids are required
- The procedure only takes a few minutes
- Hardly any risks
- Clear vision is possible again without any problems
- Laser eye treatment costs
